The British Chiropractic Association (BCA), the UK’s largest and longest-established chiropractic association, required a modern bespoke web application to support both its members and the general public. The platform needed to combine a public-facing directory with a secure members’ area, eCommerce functionality and full events and conference management.
At the time, over half of the UK’s registered chiropractors were members of the BCA, making the system a mission-critical resource for professionals seeking access to documents, marketing materials, events, peer advertising and member-only content.
Business Requirements
The BCA required a consolidated digital platform capable of supporting:
- A public “Find a Chiropractor” search tool
- A secure members’ area for documents, news and resources
- An internal marketplace where members could post classified adverts
- Full event and conference management, including online booking
- Integrated secure payments for course bookings and materials
Solution
New Media Aid developed a three-part .NET web application comprising:
- A public site for directories and general information
- A secure member portal with document repositories and order capabilities
- An event management system supporting bookings, payments and attendance reporting
The solution was powered by SQL Server and C#, with robust role-based access controls ensuring that sensitive member information was protected. The platform also supported online payments for events and marketing materials, integrating securely with a UK-based payment gateway.
Hosting was provided in a UK ISO 27001-accredited data centre on a hardened Windows Server environment, ensuring strong data protection and compliance.
Results
The system provided a centralised platform for BCA members, supporting the daily needs of chiropractors, staff and the public. Stakeholders across the organisation reported improved efficiency, easier access to resources and a smoother experience managing events and bookings.
While the BCA later transitioned to a new platform following internal restructuring and management changes, this bespoke system successfully served the association for many years and demonstrated the value of tailored, well-designed member-organisation software.
The experience gained from this project continues to inform how I design modern member portals, eCommerce workflows and secure .NET systems for associations and professional bodies today.
